Subject: Spring Hairstyle SOS
Hi! I'm going to a formal dance in March and I need a suggestion for a great hair style. I have strawberry blonde hair about two inches past the shoulders and need help with how I can put it up (to show off my neckline) - - that's not the same old updo. I'm wearing a pretty simple black satin halter gown and have my eye on a silk capelet with tassle ties. Any ideas are welcome.

Dear Rapunzel,
Your outfit sounds like it's already headed East. If you can get your hands on some coveted chopsticks, you can easily carry the "I just swept my hair up casually in these chopsticks and I am so foxy" look. If you live in a city that has a China Town - Philly, NYC or SF for starters - you can pick some up ready made. If not, just spray paint the ones from your local take out with some super glossy paint (but make sure they dry totally before you experiment with your updo). You can even glue on some rhinestones, or beaded accents that go with your dress. Take things a step further and buy a silk sash in a color that ties your gown and capelet together and wrap it around your formal waist-to-be.
How to: Sweep your hair back in pre-pony tail position - but instead of tying it back, twist your hair around in a swirl with the ends facing upwards. Bend it in half while twisting it tighter against your head and start to tuck the loose ends under, until you have a somewhat organized chignon. You'll be able to feel the fastening points where the sticks should be added for style security. Don't worry, help from a few bobby pins isn't considered cheating!
Have an amazing time!
